Drunk driving can lead to fatal motor vehicle accidents

On Behalf of | Aug 18, 2020 | Serious Injuries |

Operating a motor vehicle is something that comes with great responsibility but is often taken for granted. With all the distractions and dangers on California roadways these days, drivers must remain focused and alert at all times. Unfortunately, drunk driving continues to be a big problem across the state. Driving under the influence of alcohol is one of the most dangerous things a person can do and often leads to motor vehicle accidents.

A recent accident involving a suspected drunk driver in Anaheim led to the death of a pregnant woman. The incident occurred during the evening hours in the area of Katella Avenue and Bayless Street. According to reports, the driver of an SUV lost control of the vehicle, drove onto the sidewalk and struck a pregnant woman. Authorities said the woman was rushed to a local hospital where she tragically died.

Her husband, who was with her at the time of the accident, was not injured and said the vehicle narrowly missed striking him. Reportedly, doctors were able to save the baby who remains in critical condition in the neonatal intensive care unit. Police said the driver of the SUV was arrested and charged with felony DUI, vehicular manslaughter and other serious charges.

Individuals who get behind the wheel while impaired not only put their own lives at risk, they also risk the lives of all those around them. California residents who suffer injuries or loss due to negligence in motor vehicle accidents have the right to take legal action. A successfully litigated claim could provide vital compensation as well as some sense of justice.
