Unfortunately, driving under the influence of alcohol continues to be a major problem across the United States. When a person is intoxicated, even the simplest tasks become extremely difficult. Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol is reckless, very dangerous and should never happen. Tragically, motor vehicle accidents involving impaired or intoxicated drivers seem to be happening more and more in California.

Recently, a deadly crash near Santa Barbara killed one person and injured two others. The two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 154 during the evening hours. According to reports, the driver of a car crossed over the centerline of the highway and collided head-on with an SUV. Reportedly, the violent crash required extraction.

Authorities said a passenger in the car was critically injured and rushed to a local hospital where, unfortunately, the person later died. The driver and passenger in the SUV were also injured in the crash. Police said the driver of the car was suspected of intoxication and placed under arrest. Reports said he was charged with DUI and could be facing other serious charges.

Fortunately, police forces across the state of California are taking steps to combat drunk driving, such as increasing patrols and conducting DUI checkpoints. Nevertheless, there will always be those who choose to drive while impaired and put lives at risk. Families who have lost loved ones due to negligence in motor vehicle accidents could benefit by seeking the services of a seasoned attorney. A successful lawsuit could result in much-needed financial relief to help families recover any monetary losses that may have occurred due to a horrible and tragic crash.
