How might a TBI affect your life?

On Behalf of | Oct 21, 2019 | Serious Injuries |

TBIs can occur for a variety of reasons. From car accidents to slip and fall accidents, when you strike your head with force, you can easily suffer from a TBI. Any powerful force to your head may result in a traumatic brain injury. While TBIs may range in symptoms and affects, those who suffer moderate to severe TBI may face life challenges that force them to adapt to a new way of life. Brainline.org explains how TBI may cause mental and physical disabilities.

A TBI could force you to quit your job or make a career change. The work tasks that used to be routine may become too difficult. You may not have the same skills and abilities that you used to have before the injury. This can completely uproot your career.

The impact goes beyond a patient’s professional life. Those who have TBI may take longer with cognitive tasks. It may take you longer to make a decision or to order at a restaurant. Additionally, there may be people that have to adopt the role of a caregiver.

In addition to social and professional changes, you may have a number of different motor deficits or disabilities. These disabilities include:

  • Vision problems
  • Paralysis
  • Difficulty talking or walking
  • Loss of fine motor skills
  • Inability to recognize based on touch
  • Memory issues

While there are rehabilitation programs available for those who suffer from a TBI, there is no guarantee how much function you will retain. Your life may still be full of obstacles.
